When to Visit Us for Children’s Braces?
Orthodontists can make smiles more beautiful at any age, but the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child visit an orthodontist by age 7. Orthodontic treatment may not be necessary at this stage but catching potential problems early is very advantageous to getting the best result possible in the future.
By age 7, most children have their permanent first molars erupted which helps to establish the way their teeth fit together in the back or their occlusion. During this stage of dental development, Dr. Griffin can evaluate how the teeth fit together front to back and side to side. If any discrepancies exist, treatment may be rendered to encourage optimal development.
Some types of early treatment utilized include:
- Maintaining space for crowded, erupting permanent teeth
- Interceptive treatment to encourage proper jaw growth and development in all three dimensions
- Creating space for unerupted, crowded permanent teeth
Early intervention, when needed, can reduce treatment time with braces in the future.
