At the age of 7, I knew what I wanted to be. While the other kids were dreaming of being cowboys, ballerinas, or astronauts, I always knew that I wanted to be a doctor of some sort.
Why Did I Choose Orthodontics?
When I was 16 years old, I was told I needed braces. All of my friends were finishing up their treatment, and I was just starting! It’s hard to be the odd-man-out when you are a teenager. But, my orthodontist was one of the nicest people I ever met, and he helped me to understand why I needed treatment. His kindness got me through each step of the process.
That positive experience with my orthodontist is what steered me to the field of orthodontics later in life, and it’s what motivates me to this day to “pay it forward,” by showing the same brand of kindness to my patients.
A Little About My Family and Me
I love practicing orthodontics and find that my particular talents lend themselves to this field of dentistry. I am super attentive to detail and love working with my hands. At home, I knit and play the flute.
As an orthodontist, endless patience is a necessity, especially with nervous children and tentative adults. I always take the time to explain everything clearly because I want everyone to feel just as ease in our office as they do in their home.
I always knew that I would set up my practice in Connecticut. When I was growing up here, I loved the friendliness of the people.
Also, here in Vernon you can be either shopping downtown in the city or drive through a beautiful country back road in just a matter of minutes. I felt the combination of supportive community, thriving economy, and beautiful surroundings would make Vernon an ideal place to raise my family, and I was right!
Speaking of my family, they are a nutty group of dudes! My husband and I are college sweethearts. We have two very active little boys, Drew and CJ, ages 4 and 2. I am the only female in our household. I wanted to get a female dog so I could finally have “my girl,” but when the breeder got the litter of puppies, 8 of the 9 were boys!. Even our cat is a boy. Luckily, I have three wonderful nieces to give me some girly time!
As you can see, I love animals. In fact, I was a Zoology major in college. This fall we will be getting a therapy dog for our office. We know our patients will just love that!
The Two Secrets to My Practice’s Success
The success of my practice is mainly due to two things; my fabulous team and our focus on comfort enhancing technologies. My team is the best, and I love them all! I chose people who were caring, patient, always friendly and who have a smile for our patients no matter what. Each one of them contributes to the warm and friendly atmosphere our office is known for having.
We have recently introduced some new technology in our office, the Itero Element Scanner. It will allow us to eliminate the need for manual impressions eventually. Who doesn’t love that? I’ll be telling you more about this fabulous new technology and how it will benefit you in our next blog post so keep a look-out for it!
As you can see, I am definitely a round peg in a round hole. I can think of nothing more fulfilling than continuing my practice here in Vernon and being a part of our patient’s lives. They aren’t just patients to me; they are friends that I am interested in and want to help.
I’d like to invite you to drop by our office and get to know my team and me better. Or, you are welcome to contact us online to make an appointment if you are looking for an animal loving, flute playing, detail-oriented orthodontist. ?
